Many people today are fascinated with criminology and the process of crime scene investigation – the TV show CSI has brought to our living rooms the techniques of forensic science and investigation. This course allows one to investigate the theory behind many issues regarding crime and punishment.

The module is designed to provide learners with a general understanding of crime, and how crime affects individuals and communities. It provides learners with a basic understanding of how crime scene investigations proceed. It is also intended to prepare learners for employment or further study in related areas.

  • The Irish Justice and Penal System
  • Types of Crime
  • Crime and the Community
  • Drugs and Crime
  • Introduction to the Science of Crime Scene Investigation
  • Criminal Justice System-Role of the Gardai, the prison system, the probation system and the DPP

Assessment

  • Assignment (60%)
  • Exam (40%)

Cost        €110 

Examination fee of €20 is payable for non medical card holders for certification of the course.  If you have a valid medical card you will be exempt from the examination fee but a copy of this must be emailed on application to admin@westportcfe.ie
