In October 2018 6 staff members visited our 2 partner colleges in Estonia in Parnu and Haapsalu. While here staff members job shadowed teachers in the vocational area that that they teach in in Westport CFE.
Angela Horan worked in Neurological Rehabilitation Centre and Angela has described her experience below.
“I was very fortunate as healthcare tutor to be part of a group of staff, that travelled to Estonia on a staff mobility. For my placement I was based in the fabulous Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in picturesque Haapsalu.
As part of my placement I was fortunate to work on two of the wards. In addition, I was able to visit the Occupational Therapy Department and the Physiotherapy Department to follow patients through aspects of their rehabilitation programme. Thank you to the patients and these departments for allowing me this opportunity.
On the final day myself and Aina a senior nurse along with other senior nurses, met to discuss the similarities and differences of nursing in Estonia and Ireland. We also discussed how our two organisations could work together going forward. The staff where very impressed with our three students who travelled out to the centre this year.
I would like to thank Riina who over saw my two-day visit to the centre. Also to the nurses, carers and patients who I worked with on both wards. A big thank you for allowing me to be part of your team for the two days. Also to Aine and all her colleagues for a wonderful and insightful discussion on nursing in our two countries.
For students who will get the partake in the Erasmus project, they will gain skills that will increase their employment prospects and improve their interpersonal skills. It is an excellent learning and cultural experience. Good luck to those Health Care students who were successful at interview last week, and where offered a places in Estonia and Iceland.”
